AH-64 Apache Texturing
Responsibilities: UV unwrapping, texturing, model optimiying
The Apache was sent to me in an incomplete and inaccurate state. I needed to make several tweaks and fixes to the mesh as well as implement additional elements to prepare the model for real time render engines.
The texture map needed to show age while still represent good up keep of the aircraft. Great attention was payed to the light denting on the tail boom caused by driving the rivets into the body. Rain creates distinctive patterns on the tail boom that needed to be replicated. There also are very light color differences between panels that I also had to replicate in order to sell the specific look of the Apache’s metal surface.
The UV layout had to be efficiently spaced to provide the maximum amount of resolution allowed by the real time render engine. Allowed were 4 2k UV sets for the exterior. The interior was handled by another artist.
