Panavia Tornado GR4 Texturing
Responsibilities: UV unwrapping, texturing, model optimiying
The Panavia Tornado has distinct soot marks on its tail fin caused by the thrust reversers. To replicate this, I put an aluminium cover of a VCR unit over a fire and then brushed the resulting soot build up off to replicate the marks on the Tornado. The result was photographed and prepared to be put onto the color map.
I was responsible for the UV layout and texturing of this plane. I also needed to optimize and tweak the mesh to make it ready for real time render engines.
The UV layout had to be efficiently spaced to provide the maximum amount of resolution allowed by the real time render engine. Allowed were 4 2k UV sets for the exterior. The interior was handled by another artist.
